1)  This $180 per night 3 bedroom is somewhere in the US, not Hong Kong!  Beware of these scams on Craig's List!

(Link has expired)

A reader of my web site here contacted me about this earlier.  She was getting ready to post via western union over $1,000 US to a Paul Weis at 107 S Main St Columbus Grove, Ohio 45830.  Paul Weis is where the money was going to but she had been dealing with a Mark Pittaway (markpittaway88@hotmail.com).  He claims that Paul Weis is his manager.

Everything about the pictures seems so wrong to me.  I could name off lots of things that are wrong, such as carpet, no air conditioning in the windows or on the walls, American style everything, American appliances, etc.

I can't prove it 100% but I'm sure like 99% that this has to be a criminal at work.  Be very careful and follow Craig's Lists own rules here:

http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams

2)  Also this one (now expired) at Craigs List is a 2 bedroom but this one (now expired) is a 1 bedroom.   If you look closely, you will see that the bedroom picture is the same on both postings and the bathroom as well!  Also this place rents on Homeaway for a lot more money.  Scam I tell you.

Ai Ya! Scary. I guess where there is money to be made...
Thank you for keeping this blog, it's so useful!
I'm trying to sort out some kind of longish term housing (couple of months) for my parents when the visit HK. Not easy. Now that I'm aware of this type of scam I'll try to be cautious.

OMG, i emailed Mark (regarding causeway bay 2 bed rooms) , he told me the street address, however I cannot find it in google map so, I asked him which building since there's a lot of residential buildings on that street, he didn't give me any info.
On top of that, the deposit is way too much, 60% down plus alot of security deposit!
At the end, I didn't go with them.. I am glad that i didnt fall on that scam
